After much pressure from New York NOW, New York City finally passed a bill banning sex discrimination in public accommodations. This is the first law of its kind in any major city in the country, a huge victory for NOW!

Under Executive Order 11375, which bans the discrimination of sex in hiring and employment in the federal workforce and on the part of government contractors, NOW filed a blanket sex discrimination complaint with the Office of Federal Contract Compliance (OFCC) against 1,300 corporations for failing to file affirmative action plans for hiring women.
