CBS news coverage (here) reported that a small militant minority of women’s liberationists gathered across the country on August 26th. This is yet another attempt to invalidate the tens of thousands of men and women who marched for the equality of the sexes. Is this what you call small, CBS? Stay strong!

After much pressure from New York NOW, New York City finally passed a bill banning sex discrimination in public accommodations. This is the first law of its kind in any major city in the country, a huge victory for NOW!

Under Executive Order 11375, which bans the discrimination of sex in hiring and employment in the federal workforce and on the part of government contractors, NOW filed a blanket sex discrimination complaint with the Office of Federal Contract Compliance (OFCC) against 1,300 corporations for failing to file affirmative action plans for hiring women.

NOW has established a Federal Compliance Committee tasked specifically with developing a program and procedures for filing sex discrimination complaints with the Office of Federal Contract and the EEOC. The objective of this committee is to push for the enforcement of federal equal opportunity laws for women.
